Faculty Seminar in Central Europe:

"Central Europe's Environmental Crisis: Scientific, Social, and Cultural Perspectives"

Summer 2003

The Global Partners Project organized an interdisciplinary seminar, "Central Europe's Environmental Crisis: Scientific, Social, and Cultural Perspectives," to be held in late June 2003. The seminar focused on environmental concerns and policy in Central Europe, with special attention to the evolution of Central Europe since the days of late communism. The planners selected a faculty group with a wide range of disciplinary perspectives that can illuminate current concerns related to the physical environment, including faculty from the sciences, humanities and fine arts, and social sciences.

Participants met on a regular basis to attend presentations by and have discussions with local experts, visit local sites, and discuss a common core of readings. The seminar ran for two and a half weeks and was based at Palacký University, Olomouc, Czech Republic, with excursions to other Central European sites relevant to the group. Dr. Myron Levine, Sleight Professor in Leadership Studies and Professor of Political Science at Albion College, was be the facilitator.
